I’ve just returned from my inaugural trip to Moab, UT. The desert landscape is stark, and its hot. For a coastal dweller like myself, the desert evokes comparison with altitude – you can visit, but you can’t stay. 3L of water for a 5hr bike ride is barely enough.

Photographically, the desert for me was an exercize in capturing form. Arranging the wild rocky bodies into a strong composition is difficult because in any given scene there is so much form popping out at the eye. The task of omitting objects from the frame is an important one.
