Bike Magazine cover

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Very happy to see the new cover of Bike magazine, a picture Darcy Turenne and I took in Naniamo, BC last fall. It is my first Bike mag cover. The issue also contains a series of portraits I took with Darcy, Micayla Gatto, and Willow Koerber.

This image was taken in my bedroom today. It is a scene I’ve looked at conceivably hundreds and hundreds of times, but not until today did I “see” it, and decide to take a picture of it. Interesting how we go through life, failing to really experience the things that are right in front of us.

This weekend under tranquil skies and rising temperatures, we journied up the Duffey Lake road and ski toured/climbed the highest peak in the area, Mt. Matier, standing at just over 9,000ft. My partner’s and I skied it’s legendary NW face, fast, and then down the Anniversary Glacier back to the road. All in, a 5000 vertical ft descent, punctuated by cold beers waiting for us in the snow bank when we reached the road.

Pro Photographer Showdown – Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Whistler has held the WSSF for a what seems like quite a few years now. The diversity in music, spring skiing and competition, and arts events have become part of the fabric of a complete Whistler ski season. I remember attending the Pro Photographer Showdown for the first time when I was starting out and trying to become a little more “serious” about taking action photographs. I drove up to Whistler in my dad’s sedan and watched the shows, slept in the car that night and envisioned someday entering the contest. That time has come and I am humbled by my competition this year – it promises to be an inspiring evening.

For the past week I have been working on my show, dialing in my Final Cut skills. After years of using the program, I feel like I have finally figured out what works for slideshows and what does not.
