La Grave, France

I’m now in La Grave and just got off the hill after my first day back here skiing. It is my 3rd year in a row (and in total) having the good fortune to be able to ski and experience this magical place. The grandur of rock and ice here blow the mind, and the way a skier can move through such a huge volume of spectacular terrain in a day is like nothing else I’ve experienced. You have to be on your toes, and you have to know where you’re going, as there is no ski patrol, nothing is marked, and the terrain is extremely complex. You’re on your own to wander the mountains, giving you a much more real experience as a skier, and consequently you feel that much more alive.  I’m here shooting photos, as well as shooting a web episode for Arcteryx/Goretex. These episodes I’m doing will consist of video, stills, and timelapses that I’m gathering with a Nikon D3s, which is proving to be a great all-in-one tool.

  1. Jordan,

This photo is EPIC. Would love to see something like this on canvas – and LARGE! You’re photo’s are truly inspiring to an amateur photographer like myself. Heading to Vancouver/Whistler in March and looking forward to capturing some of the Provinces beauty – hopefully half as good as what you’ve captured here in La Grave. Keep up the awesome work.

    Cheers,

    Jim

  2. Dude, I am planning to take a week here next year. Though you are making me think the wife should stay back at our new home in Paris. Maybe I will see you there next year. Give a holler if you are ever in Paris…

  3. Hey Brett – did you just move there recently? Wish I’d got the comment earlier I just rolled through Paris and am back home now. Perhaps next year I’ll look you up! La Grave has some “mellow” skiing too, so there is something for most people there still.

Hello, your photos of La Grave are amazing, I love the one published in Couloir magazine. I’m trying to make it there for next winter for the full season working at a hotel, fingers crossed. After 8 years in Lake Louise I need a change, and that place is in my dreams!!! Hopefully I’ll see you there next year! Keep up the amazing work.

  5. Cheers Mike! Maybe see you over there…
